Garioch Gymnastics Club has been busy over lockdown upgrading its facility ready for the upcoming reopening.

The club will welcome back members on Monday, April 26, and its base at Kintore has seen the addition of new equipment.

Fundraising efforts and a donation has allowed the club to install a pitted area at the bars; mobile inflatable raised pits which can be used with a variety of apparatus; an extra vault station and a conditioning area.

Club manager Janine Robertson said: "Since moving into our new facility in Kintore our plan was always, in time, to build podium pits.

"We thought after last year that this wouldn't be possible for a few years but thanks to some very successful fundraising efforts from our members and a very generous donation, we were able to start the process during this most recent lockdown.

"Due to our charity status and our collective drive to make this the best gym it can be for the community we serve, our staff, volunteers and helpers have worked tirelessly to ensure when we re-open our facility is the best we can offer.

"The gym will now include a pitted area at bars, which will be a raised podium filled with foam, and mobile inflatable raised pits which can be used for our other apparatus including tumbling, vaulting and beam work.

"A little move around of equipment has also allowed us to add in an extra vault station and a conditioning area.

"We are sure the pits are going to be massively beneficial to our members as well as great fun.

"We are very grateful to our joiner Matthew Mottershead from MJM Joinery and Bob Foy from R&M Leisure who have worked extremely hard recently and without whom our dream would never have come to fruition.

"We have been overwhelmed by the continued support from our members - gymnasts and their families - and can't wait to re-open and let them use the fruits of their labour."

The club held a coaches training day in preparation for the sessions restarting.

This included a focus on boys gymnastics training.

The group has also made an appeal for any parents or carers to join its fundraising committee.

Janine added: "As we continue to grow not only in the size of our gym but the number of gymnasts, we need all the help people can offer.

"To be part of the fundraising committee we only require whatever time people are able to spare.
