The members of Fyvie FC wanted to do something to give back to the local community as a means of thanking people for the support they have received since the club was set up.

This has included sponsorship, support and efforts which saw the complete revamp of the changing facilities in Fyvie and work to bring the local pitch up to standard.

With this in mind they came up with the challenge of completing a 300 miles event, both by running and cycling to reflect the distance around all the away grounds the team played at last season and to ensure that they could carry it out using current social distancing guidelines.

The challenge was to do this in three days to raise funds for Preston House Sheltered Housing in Fyvie and Badenscoth House Nursing Home near Rothienorman.

Kicking things off on Friday co-manager Richard Davidson, captain Mike McKinnon, and vice-captain Stephen Lawrie clocked up the first miles of the day covering the distance to their very first away game of the season which was in New Pitsligo in the Gordon Leask Cup Group Stages.

From their they headed the equivalent to Peterhead to face Buchanhaven completing a total of 120 miles.

The second day saw them head to Strichen to play Mormond Thistle in a cup game and from there it was on to Ardallie in the league and from Macduff to New Deer, a doubleheader away to Methlick taking them to an impressive 257 miles and easily within sight of their target.

Their third day saw team members cover the distance out to Mintlaw and Fraserburgh where they had faced league leaders Elizabethan in the Ardallie Cup and their season finish which saw that as the Howdens League 2 champions.

Commenting following the completion of the event Mr Davidson said: "The lads have really put in a shift and have completed not just the 300 miles but have ended up covering a distance of 377 miles in total.

"A huge thanks goes to everyone who has donated so far taking our total to over £1500, it is massively appreciated and will be a great help to the two local care homes.

"We are going to leave the just giving page open for donations for a couple more days for anyone who would like to put in a donation so please dig deep for a great cause!

"On behalf of everyone at Fyvie FC, thanks once again for all your support, stay safe and any donations are greatly appreciated."
