People of the north-east have rallied behind a family who lost everything in a house fire on Friday February 11.

The family - mum Anita Bain and children aged 13, 15 and18 - were left with little more than the clothes on their backs after returning from a shopping trip to find their New Pitsligo home in flames.

An already difficult situation has been even harder for the family as one of Ms Bain's children has autism, a developmental disability which affects how people interact with the world.

Local resident Rebecca Carpenter - who is herself unknown to the family - set up a GoFundMe page which has to date accumulated over £4,500 to help the family find their feet again.

Amongst the donors were Fraserburgh Football Club, who donated £400 from the entrance fees of their most recent home game.

Touched by the kindness of strangers, Anita took to social media to thank those who had helped in many ways.

As well as thanking neighbours and friends for their efforts to comfort the family, she also thanked emergency services and shared that while much of the house was devastated by the fire the firefighters were able to rescue a pet hamster and a soft toy of great sentimental value.
