After receiving over £1000 from Coop Local Community Fund, a Cuminestown community group is one step closer to a major fundraising goal.

Coop Members raise money for local groups simply by scanning their membership card while shopping, with two pence from every pound spent on eligible items going into a charity pot for that store.

Members can then choose which of the three current causes they would like to support, or if no cause is selected their 'donations' will be split between the causes.

Nationally the fund has donated over £117,000,000 to community causes.

For the 2022-23 session, the three causes which Turriff store customers could choose to support were 1st Turriff Scout Group, Friends Of Forglen Hall and James Tennant Playing Field Association.

Each group received over £1000, with the James Tennant Playing Field receiving £1009.68.

This money will be used towards refurbishing the tennis courts, which the group expect to cost over £8000.

The James Tennant Playing Field Association are now working hard to raise money and secure further funding with hopes that the necessary work can be completed before next summer.

Not only does the money raised by Coop Members bring the group closer to achieving their goal, it also helps to open up more funding streams for which the group are grateful.
