Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has put forward a motion to the Scottish Parliament to mark a funding boost for a north-east community project.

It comes after Methlick Community Council was awarded £25,000 by Sport Scotland’s Sport Facilities Fund.

The grant will contribute towards the building of a multi-use games area which will be suitable for a wide range of sports.

The community council is set to discuss its plans to progress the project during the group's online meeting on Wednesday evening.

Ms Martin said: “This funding is a fantastic opportunity for Methlick Community Council in its efforts to create a multi-games area.

“The new facility will provide further opportunities for clubs and the local community to take part in sport and physical activity.

“I also welcome the efforts to increase the participation in sport of both women and girls and disabled people as well as deprived or rural communities.

“We know, more than ever, how vital exercise and sport can be to our mental health as well as our physical health too.

“I would like to wish Methlick Community Council all the best and I look forward to visiting the multi-use games area in the future."
