Funding for Aberdeenshire Council to support children in care system welcomed

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has welcomed funding from the Scottish Government to support Aberdeenshire Council to deliver objectives that help children, young people and families in the care system.

The second round of the Promise Partnership fund will see 42 third sector and private organisations across Scotland benefitting from £4 million to deliver projects that enrich and improve the lives of young people in care.

The announcement, which came at the start of Care Experienced Week, continues the Scottish Government’s 2022 commitment to administer £12 million through the Promise Partnership fund from December 2022 until March 2025.

Ms Martin said: “Aberdeenshire Council's Virtual Headteacher provides invaluable support to children and young people in our care system, and this Care Experienced Week, I welcome the announcement that it will receive part of £4 million of funding from the Scottish Government to help it continue this life-changing work.

“Children and young people in care should always feel loved and respected, and this funding will help organisations to build supportive workforces and school structures to ensure young people can thrive in a safe environment and enhance youth justice and rights to stop the criminalisation of children and young people with care experience.

“The Promise Partnership Fund underlines the SNP’s commitment to driving forward the much-needed transformational change to keep Scotland the best place in the world to grow up, and to ensure that all children in Aberdeenshire get the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
