A countryside community is set to benefit after receiving over £1000 from the Coop Local Community Fund.

Coop Members raise money for local groups simply by scanning their membership card while shopping, with two pence from every pound spent on eligible items going into a charity pot for that store.

Members can then choose which of the three current causes they would like to support, or if no cause is selected their 'donations' will be split between the causes.

Nationally the fund has donated over £117,000,000 to community causes.

For the 2022-23 session, the three causes which Turriff store customers could choose to support were 1st Turriff Scout Group, Friends Of Forglen Hall and James Tennant Playing Field Association.

Each group received over £1000, with the Friends Of Forglen Hall receiving £1009.09.

This money will be used towards the running and upkeep of the hall, and ensure that costs can be kept as low as possible for the groups which use the hall.

A spokesperson for the group said: "It's important to do what we can to ensure that groups can keep using the hall as they provide social opportunities and support mental wellbeing of our rural community."

Among the groups who use the hall are a resilience group, craft group Fit Like Forglen? and sewing classes have also recently started.

The hall is also used for various community, fundraising and entertainment events.
