Fashion fundraiser cancelled amid pandemic fears

By Kirsty Brown

Friends Of ANCHOR have announced their decision to postpone the 2020 Courage On The Catwalk and Brave events to keep their models safe in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The charity - which raises funds to support the ANCHOR unit which serves oncology and haematology patients throughout the north-east of Scotland including Orkney and Shetland - said that the announcement came with "heavy hearts" however after consulting with NHS staff and other published guidance it was agreed that "the safety and wellbeing of our models is paramount".

Courage On The Catwalk and Brave sees those living with cancer and cancer survivors take to the stage to strut their stuff to raise funds for the charity.

It is important to the fundraising team that the celebratory atmosphere of these events is maintained, and they are raring to go with preparations when it is once again safe for them to do so.

Fundraising director Sarah-Jane Hogg said: “First and foremost, Courage and Brave is about celebration.

"Celebrating our models, celebrating the love and support of family and friends and the clinical teams.

"Anything that could detract or dilute that sense of celebration, joy and achievement would ultimately diminish what lies ahead for our models with this experience.

"With that in mind, once we get the go-ahead, we hope everyone involved in this special show weekend will come together with as much excitement and commitment to lavish love on our models when they get their right time in the spotlight.”
