Organiser Christine Hay said: “Back in November we held a fundraiser at the Hopeville Social Club Inverurie to raise money for Bowel cancer awareness. Local band Fourway Street provided the music which the have done for many years for free. The charities were picked this year by Bruce Calder son of Roy who is a member of Fourway Street along with Calum, Jim and Andy and this year Sandy.Bruce chose Clan Aberdeen and Aberdeen University.”

She continued: “The University have an ongoing program running to try and find a cure for this terrible disease. Bruce himself has gone through treatment for Bowel Cancer. Clan gave Bruce fantastic support during his treatment and he wanted to give them something back. The night was organised by myself and a great fundraising team but without the great Fourway Street these nights would not be possible they have given us their support as I said earlier for many years raising thousands of pounds for many different charities. We are also very lucky to have amazing businesses in Inverurie and Aberdeen who are more than willing to help give prizes for our raffle and auction which we greatly appreciate.

“This year we raised £6402 which was split equally between the two charities. I cannot emphasise enough these nights would not happen without the band and a great bunch of party goers who attend the event every year. Without them purchasing tickets, raffles and taking part in our auction these sums of money would never be reached.”

She continued: “The cheque presentation was delayed due to myself having an accident but this week Lynne Black from Aberdeen University came out to the Hopeville Social club to meet Bruce and the band members and some of the fundraising team for the presentation.”
