FOUR new confirmed cases of coronavirus have taken the total in Moray since the outbreak began to 98.

All four cases have been confirmed since last Wednesday, with the positive tests taking place on Monday August 10, Wednesday August 12, and two on Thursday August 13.

Last week's update showed Moray was eight weeks without a coronavirus-related death, with the area's death toll since the outbreak began sitting at 20. This number includes those where covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The National Records of Scotland, who produce these figures, will now be releasing them on a monthly basis, with next update to come on September 16.

Across Scotland, there were three deaths between August 10 and August 16 with covid-19 on the death certificate.

A total of 6795 coronavirus tests have been taken by Moray residents since the outbreak began, with 98 now positive and 6697 negative. Of those tests, 408 have been carried out in the last week.

In Moray, 13 people who have tested positive have died within 28 days.

Across Grampian, 69 cases have been confirmed in the last week, with Aberdeen still in lockdown after a covid-19 outbreak in the city centre. The NHS Grampian health board has now confirmed 1861 cases of coronavirus overall.

Scotland-wide update

As of August 16, there have been a total of 4216 deaths registered across Scotland where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate.

Three of these deaths came between August 10 and August 16, a decrease of two from the previous week. One of these deaths took place in a care home and two in a hospital.

The number of people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus is 2492 – up one due to a death from April which was not previously included due to a delay in the lab result being reported into the national system.

Across Scotland, nobody who had tested positive for coronavirus has died for 34 days.

In total, 438,257 people in Scotland have been tested. Of these, 418,800 were confirmed negative with 19,457 positive.

Two people were in intensive care last night with confirmed covid-19, with 248 in hospital.
