In October the World Clydesdale Show is being held in Scotland for the first time.

Normally this show is held in North America but this year the show is coming to the home of the Clydesdales and will be held at the P&J Arena.

There are over 60 classes that will showcase both in-hand and driven horses.

The World Farriers competition will also be held over those four days at the same venue.

Upstairs in the trade area, there will be trade stands offering a wide variety of food, drink and merchandise from across Scotland and other parts of the UK.

On one of the evenings, organisers are hosting a series of lectures given by leading Clydesdale veterinarians.

They will be speaking on topics that are particular to the Clydesdale horse as the breed is listed on the endangered species list compiled by the Rare Breeds society.

Other education elements include a display of horse drawn implements and harnessing demonstrations in the sub-T area where the public can meet the horses.

The show committee are all volunteers and proceeds from the show will be used to fund several projects that will hopefully move the Clydesdale breed away from their “at risk” status.

Spokesperson Val Smith said: "The entries are in and we are heading into the final stages of planning this event.

"I am sure readers know that Clydesdales are a big part of our Scottish history and the whole purpose of hosting the show is to shine a light on these amazing animals, to give the public a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the horses and to raise funds for the projects mentioned above."

There is further information about the show one the website www.worldclydesdaleshow2022.comalong with a link for tickets.

The World Clydesdale Show 2022 will also see Martin Clunes act as show president.

As well as being a writer, presenter and actor, Mr Clunes is also an incredibly keen heavy horse enthusiast who took over as president of The British Horse Society in 2011.

Already known to millions from his stage and screen appearances, including Doc Martin, Manhunt and Men Behaving Badly, his 2010 ITV documentary series Horsepower revealed his passion for horses and latterly a second equine documentary, Heavy Horsepower, in 2013.

Martin owns two Clydesdale horses, Ronnie and Bruce, and knows first-hand the joy that these gentle giants can bring to owners, exhibitors and spectators alike at shows like this one.

Mr Clunes will be attending the four day long show which runs between October 20 and 23.

He commented: "I am really excited to be the President of this prestigious show.

"Like a lot of people, I get a gut punch when I see Clydesdale horses so to be present at a world show with horses from all over the world is just too exciting.

"I am also very happy to show my boys off and 1’m crossing my fingers that they behave themselves."
