At their first meeting of the new year in Banff Springs Hotel members of Banff Probus Club were entertained by Strichen farmer Peter Chapman.

He is an enthusiastic exponent of the Doric language and culture.

As well of being a successful farmer he has also held a number of posts in farming and local organisations and businesses including a spell as a member of the Scottish Parliament.

A Banff Probus Club spokesman said: "Peter gave an entertaining and humorous talk in the Doric dialect of his early life on a rural croft through a succession of purchases of other local farms up to the extensive farming complex the family run today.

"The meeting ended with Peter singing and reciting a number of north-east songs and poems by local composers.

"These feature on a CD which he released and copies were offered for sale with profits going to Crimond Medical and Community Hub.”
