She started at the Express when she was 20 years old, after finishing university, in a small cupboard-like office in a premises on Duke Street.

Back when Pat started, the paper was laid out in blocks, a page per block for printing and was laid out back to front.

Lead was used in print setting then it was melted down and used next week again.

The printing eventually moved to the industrial site and all the information had to be taken there by hand.

Pat told many stories which told of the evolution of the newspaper over the year, right up to the present day when it's run by Highland News and Media.

She also explained how changes were made from using floppy discs to more modern, digital, systems.

The next Huntly Probus Club meeting is on Thursday, December 7, which is also the Christmas meal.

Members should arrive at noon for a 12.30pm at Huntly Golf Club.
