A call has gone out to the local community from the Fyvie, Rothienorman and Monquhitter Community Council (FRMCC) to gauge the level of interest in a local Community Speed Watch scheme.

Duncan Cameron from FRMCC spoke this week to an initial meeting giving an overview and update on his experiences and the challenges faced in establishing a Speedwatch group, the main one being in having sufficient volunteers to progress with the initiative.

After a general discussion the feeling of the group was that in order to obtain more volunteers to make this initiative effective, it would be better to approach this collectively rather than as individual Community groups.

The hope is that this will result in a core number of members who can work together to target hotspots throughout the Formartine Area.

As FRMCC were already registered on the Community Speed Watch Scheme, Duncan has updated the name of the group to Speedwatch Formartine.

Details of the Scheme and all it involves are available at the following link www.communityspeedwatch.org

To register interest - Click on Register > Join Existing Group > In the drop down menu select Police Scotland> In the drop down menu select Aberdeenshire North and finally> In the drop down menu select Speedwatch Formartine where you can enter your details.

Once the level of volunteers is known then volunteers can look to meet as a group to discuss next steps and how best to progress, while taking input and advice from Police Scotland.

The group can then look at funding opportunities for purchasing the equipment required and set up a plan to look at locations throughout the Formartine area and how best to utilise volunteers.

From the discussions it was clear to see that speeding continues too be an issue within all Formartine communities and there is an appetite to take action to address this.
