A LOCAL group which works to combat feelings of isolation has been overwhelmed by the generosity of local NFU employees.

Turriff And District Men’s Shed have been awarded £6379 by the Turriff branch of NFU Mutual as part of the company’s Agency Giving Fund which was set up during the pandemic to support local charities which had been hit hard by lockdown.

Last Thursday NFU Mutual’s Sarah Law and Ashley Lakin visited the Turriff Shed at Rosehall to make the presentation and learn more about their work and the impact of The Shed on member’s lives.

Turriff And District Men’s Shed chairman Ian Murray said: "NFU Mutual recognised the vital need to support local frontline charities so they set up the Agency Giving Fund and this year the Turriff agency decided we ticked all of the boxes.

“I’m absolutely delighted to say we have been awarded over £6000, which for a small local charity like us is a massive boost!

“Although we have not decided what to do with this windfall it means a great deal to us.

“For us it equates to two years of our fixed costs - such as rent, insurance and phone and internet expenses - and this allows more time to devote to community projects and means we do not always need to be making goods for sale to cover our operating costs.
“There are always other tools and equipment that we can add to the shed.

“We are extremely grateful to Sarah and her colleagues for nominating us.

“All the shedders thank you very much indeed, and whatever we do with the money we will put it to effective use.”

Anyone over 18 is welcome to pop out to the Shed, situated behind on a weekday morning to find out more about Men's Shed, get involved with projects or just enjoy some company and getting out of the house for a while.
