In an update to clients today (Monday) Aberdeenshire North Foodbank has advised that its Peterhead, Huntly and Inverurie Foodbank Centres are now closed to the public.
The Ellon unit continues to operate safely as usual at the moment.
A spokeswoman explained: "For Peterhead, Inverurie and Huntly we are moving to delivery service of food parcels which will allow us to still provide food to those who don't have enough money to buy it.
"If you need to use our service you will still need to be referred to us by one of our partner agencies, so if you receive existing support please speak with your support worker or you can use local welfare and advice services.
"The organisation that refers you will explain about our deliveries but we ask that you stay indoors and your parcel will be left at your door.
"Please note, we are not providing deliveries to those who can afford food but cannot get to the shops."
The Scottish government states that as far as possible they want to ensure that:
• Those who can get to the shops to purchase food have the money they need to do this.
The budget for the Scottish Welfare Fund has been more than doubled to ensure it can meet the needs of those facing financial crisis.
Information on how to access it is available here.
• Community organisations may also choose to provide vouchers or cash as an alternative to direct food provision.
We have had reassurances from Department for Work and Pensions that this will not affect benefits.
• Food delivery is available for those who can’t get out from supermarkets and also Scottish government initiatives that are being set up.
• Where the above is not possible, that community food organisations (like our Foodbank) can provide food in a safe and dignified way.
