Portsoy-based group Folk at the Salmon Bothy has announced a number of upcoming live events as recent Covid restrictions ease.

The traditional music enthusiasts will kick off their 2022 live events calendar with a popular Bothy Ballads and Burns night.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 19 at Portsoy Bowling Club from 6.30pm.

For the first time, the event will be hosted by one family, the local and very talented Lennox Family.

Members Jill, Cait and Annie, who make up traditional music group Tripple, will appear alongside Bill and Mac Lennox to provide a night of music, song and entertainment.

The Lennox family will ensure proceedings are traditional and memorable, having previously been awarded Burns related accolades.

Annie was crowned the Young Burnsian in 2013 by the World Burns Federation, and Cait and Mac have been crowned National winners in the World Burns Federation competition.

The family will be joined on stage by a number of additional performers, and there will also be opportunities for performances by audience members on the night.

Tickets for the evening are priced at £20 and include a three-course meal and dram. Booking in advance is essential.

Looking ahead, the club’s regular open mic sessions make a welcome return from Friday, March 18 at the Salmon Bothy in Portsoy from 7pm.

The sessions will then take place on the third Friday of each month thereafter. All are welcome to attend whether to perform or simply enjoy the entertainment.

Tommy Sands, Northern Irish singer, songwriter and social activist will also perform at the Salmon Bothy on Saturday, March 26.

Renowned worldwide, Sands performed with his siblings as The Sands Family, and has developed into one of the most powerful songwriters and enchanting solo performers in Ireland today. Tickets for this event are available now.

Folk at the Salmon Bothy chairman Bob Philips said: “It is heartening to be able to once again plan live events as Covid restrictions are eased.

"As traditional music enthusiasts, our members thrive on live performances which bring together a wide variety of talented performers and provide opportunities to join in, socialise and enjoy the entertainment on offer.

"We are very much looking forward to a varied and full event calendar throughout the year ahead.”
