Five new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray

THE total number of cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray since the outbreak began reached 70 over the weekend.

Five new cases have been confirmed since Friday afternoon – with three cases confirmed on Saturday, none on Sunday, and two this afternoon.

The NHS Grampian health board has confirmed 48 new cases of the virus. There are now 1200 cases across the Grampian region, up from 1152 on Friday afternoon.

Aberdeenshire has 419 confirmed cases, with Aberdeen City having 697. Neighbouring Highland council has 189 cases – meaning it has seen no rise since Friday.

At midnight, there were 88 people in Grampian hospitals with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, with seven in intensive care.

Scotland-wide, the number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus and died within 28 days is now 2105. That is an increase of 52 deaths since Friday.

A total of 88,940 people have been tested for the virus in Scotland, with 74,346 negative and 14,594 positive. The number of patients discharged from hospital is 3372.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today announced a "phased approach" to beginning to ease Scotland's lockdown will be published on Thursday. The date mentioned for the easing of restrictions is May 28.

For now, the message remains: Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives.
