Coronavirus update: First Minister Nicola Sturgeon gives dates for contact sport, driving lessons, gyms, swimming pools and more to get going after lockdown

SCOTLAND'S First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has provided an update on the country's lockdown this afternoon – with a host of reopenings scheduled for the coming weeks.

The date for the reopening of gyms, swimming pools and indoor sports courts has been brought forward to August 31 from mid-September.

Sports fans were also given a boost, with a date set for the potential partial reopening of stadia.

A number of regulations will change next week. Starting from Monday, August 24, the following will be allowed to reopen/restart.

  • Organised outdoor contact sports for all ages - following guidance of relevant sporting bodies.
  • Driving lessons.
  • Bingo halls, amusement arcades, funfairs and casinos.
  • Bowling and snooker/pool halls.
  • Outdoor live events with open space or organised seating and social distancing.
  • Child contact centres.
  • Face-to-face advice services.

A week later, on August 31, gyms, swimming pools and indoor sports courts will be allowed to reopen.

There will then be a review on September 10 and, if all is as expected, then the following will be allowed on Monday, September 14.

  • Soft play areas.
  • Certain indoor live events, such as concerts, with social distancing.
  • Theatres and music venues.
  • The limited reopening of stadia with physical distancing.
  • Certain outdoor live events involving focused standing, with distancing.

As of yet, no date has been provided for the return of non-essential office working or call centres, with working from home remaining the default position.

Nightclubs and indoor live events are also awaiting further review.
