Fire crews continue to tackle overnight wildfire at Macduff

Efforts continue to tackle a wildfire in amongst gorse bushes which broke out in the early hours of Monday morning on the edge of Macduff.

Local crews were the first to respond after the call was made just after 2am.

A total of six appliances along with a high access unit, all terrain vehicle, welfare support and members of the local COTAG 4x4 team were sent to the scene along with senior officers from Scottish Fire and Rescue.

A fire spokesman said “a large plume of smoke continues to be created by the fire and residents in the area are being urged to keep their windows closed due to the high volume of smoke present."

As of 9.15am Union Road in Macduff (A98) remains closed, but access to Banff over the Banff Bridge on the A947 is currently open as crews work to extinguish and contain the incident.
