Keith is shining bright after its Christmas lights twinkled to life at the weekend.

Callum Stuart was involved in both the town's official and unofficial switch-ons.

Over the past decade the 23-year-old has turned his home beside Seafield Park into one of the best festive spectacles throughout the whole north.

Bigger and better each year, the display now includes literally hundreds of thousands of individual bulbs.

Amongst the new attractions this December is an illuminated train that moves, a life-size igloo and a variety of festive bikes that can be sat on by youngsters.

Added to all those attractions, Callum has also played a part in the town's main display which, thanks to Keith Community Council, punches well above its weight.

Callum said: "I'm lucky that my home is in a great location for this.

"As they drive round the corner on the A96 from Huntly the lights are suddenly right there in front of everybody."

Several hundred onlookers gathered outside Callum's on Saturday evening for the big switch-on at 5pm, shortly after the lights went on across the rest of Keith.

Flicking the switch was James Baird, Loch Park's manager.

Last year the public donated more than £8000 and, this time round, the day centre at Drummuir will be one of three local good causes receiving support.

Another is the Beeches unit at Keith Primary where Callum works as a janitor.

Also in line to benefit from donations is the Keith Christmas Lights fund.

Callum makes many of the display's features himself, moulding fluorescent tubes into various shapes, as well as incorporating whatever interesting items he can lay his hand on.

He has been hard at work since January preparing this year's display, which is made up almost entirely from environmentally-friendly LED bulbs.

Callum says he'd like to thank his granny Jessie, his girlfriend Kayleigh Dalgarno and his good friend Kevin McAdam for all their support and help.

He added: "I probably say this every year but it's the truth – I love watching the reaction of the little ones when they see the display.

"Their faces light up as much as the lights do."

The lights will stay switched on all the way through January in order to raise the maximum amount of money possible.
