A HUNTLY couple reached a marriage jubilee during the royal celebrations.

Dennis and Grace Cowe marked 60 years of marriage with family celebrations.

The couple who are both 85, came from farming families, Dennis at Botary, Cairnie and Grace, from Adamston, Drumblade and met through their mutual involvement in Young Farmers.

By the time of their marriage, Grace's family had moved to Aberdeen and they were married in the city's Mannofield Church and had their reception in what was The Queen's Hotel.

Their married life began at Botary but in 1970 they moved to Bucharn Farm and continued there until their retirement in 2003.

Their marriage motto followed a telegram message on the day which said - "You're yokit now, pull together."

Initially they bred Aberdeen Angus cattle and had the distinction of supplying a baron of beef to The Queen Mother whom Dennis travelled to London to meet.

After Dennis went with his father to Australia to visit family, he and Grace subsequently cruised to the country taking in many countries en route.

Grace is passionate about her garden and this year has grown over 300 petunias from seed.

The couple joked that the secret to their continued happy marriage was having separate televisions!

Grace said: "We worked hard but we have enjoyed a good life and have been lucky to have holidays."

They have one daughter, Jackie, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
