A COMMUNITY event in Huntly next weekend will entertain the whole family – as a team of local children bring to life a shelter they have designed.

The TOADS group will be leading a willow-weaving demonstration of their own.

Huntly arts organisation Deveron Projects is holding a Winter Warmer event in the Brander Garden on Saturday, February 24, between 10am and 1pm.

A morning of drop-in creative activities for all the family will "wake up" the garden after winter, a Deveron Projects spokesperson said, along with celebrating the year-long Caretaker’s Garden project.

As part of the event an accessible garden shelter designed by the TOADS, an outdoors after school club, and artist Susie Dalton will be brought to life.

Key to this, will be a hands-on workshop on willow weaving and construction led by the TOADS group themselves.

Other activities to get involved with include scarecrow making alongside gardener-in-residence Lindy Young, a drop in tool sharpening workshop with local firm Simply Sharp, as well as fire-side Doric tales featuring garden wildlife with author Aaron Gale.

The event is free and open to all ages, with plenty of hot drinks and soup provided.

The Brander Garden is at the back of the Brander Building on Huntly Square, and is accessed via a white gate in McVeagh Street.
