Environmentally-friendly projects and charities in Moray share £449,349 from Just Transition fund

THERE are many happy community and charitable groups today across Moray with 18 winners revealed in the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund.
And they have shared in a £449,349 windfall from the process.
The two single biggest awards in Moray of £50,000 each have gone to Morayvia, the aviation museum, and for a new community minibus for Hopeman and the surrounding area. Morayvia will use the cash to implement energy saving measures and enhance its use of solar power.
In total, £1.5 million is available across Aberdeen, Aberdeeshire and Moray each year.
ACVO TSI, Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, TSI Moray, NESCAN Hub, Money for Moray and Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) deliver the fund which is designed to help the transition to net zero.
The awards followed a community consultation and then voting process in Moray.
Outfit Moray, the award-winning outdoor education charity which last week met William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, gets £40,000 for a replacement minibus.
Moray Food Plus, which supports individuals and families facing hardship and also provides food and nutritional support, will get £34,565 to expand access to its services.
Lhanbryde Community Challenge wants to instal community solar panels and this can become a reality now with a £28,000 award.
Event First Aid Service Scotland wants reduce carbon emissions by purchasing a smaller, newer Citroen Relay or similar eco friendly ambulance to phase out its larger and less fuel efficient older Mercedes Sprinter ambulance. It has received £33,000.
Let there be light and more energy efficient – Buckie Thistle Football Club will get £26,750 towards new floodlights for Victoria Park.
A solar hub plan by the Friends of Forres Woods and Fields has won £23,000.
Finechty Men's Shed will get £20,000 for a new workshop and the village will also benefit with Findochty Town Hall receiving £16,240 for solar panels.
Solar panels is also the aim for Cullen Sea School, which has won £18,900; 1st Elgin Scouts (£16,771) and 1st Lossie Scouts (£18,000).
Cullen Community Allotments will receive £12,211 for a new polycrub.
Elgin Youth Development is to get £7411 as it works towards a greener future and a more energy efficient heating system will support this aim.
Elgin and District Men's Shed will get £5196 to replace the old single glazed windows which are in very poor condition. Some of its members are quite vulnerable so aren`t able to come and meet with their peers when the weather is too cold.
And Cullen Voluntary Tourist Initiative is to receive £420 to instal an energy efficient electric heater in Cullen tourist office.
