Runners looking to take part in Run Garioch 2023 will soon be able to get their entries in for the event.

It challenges participants to tackle either the 5k, 10k half marathon or junior runs.

Next year's event takes place on Sunday, May 14 in Inverurie and entries will open on Saturday, September 3 at 8am.

It also community focused with funds raised supporting the Garioch Sports Centre and partner charities.

Race support manager Christine Appel said: "We are launching the entries to coincide with the Garioch Sports Centre's open weekend, which will have lots of free activities for families.

"Entries will go live on our website at 8am on Saturday, September 3.

"We will have the same format of races which are 5k, 10k, half marathon and the junior runs.

"We used to hold the event in March but the move to May has been so much better for the weather.

"We had three years off with Covid and took the opportunity to move the date. There was a gap in the calendar, so we thought May would be a good time for us to take advantage of.

"It was really popular with the runners, charities, volunteers and vendors.

"We still have to determine which charities we will be supporting next year but we are looking forward to working with local causes again.

"The event has become well cemented as a feature in the race calendar year."

Last year's event saw more than 2000 runners take part across the races.

Christine added: "The runs are for all abilities and the crowds show their support from the first to the last runners.

"The 5k is ideal for those starting out and taking part in their first running race.

"There are plenty of running groups in the area who will give lots of support to people who want to get involved.

"Also there are clubs like the Garioch Roadrunners that can assist with the 10k and half marathon races.

"There is no need for people to train alone. There is help out there and they can contact us and we will help them get in touch with a club."

Prices for taking part in the races have been held so it is accessible to as much people as possible.

"Last year was really just about reminding people about the event, as three years away is a long time for any activity," added Christine.

"We were delighted with the support we had. Things are different for people now but we are really looking forward to getting back up to the numbers we had previously.

"We want to encourage more people to take part and that they have more confidence, not only with crowds but also that the events will go ahead.

"There was so much uncertainty over whether anything people signed up to or bought a ticket for would happen.

"We are really looking forward to building on last year and we are really grateful to everybody who has supported us."

For the half marathon event there are still opportunities for businesses to support the race.
