Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group (IEI) has announced that entry forms are now available for the Inverurie Best Garden Competition 2022.

This year sees the return of the contest after it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The showcase annual event is now in its 18th year and is popular with residents and businesses alike.

The group said that apart from the enjoyment that gardening brings to many people, it is especially pleasing that those entering the competition want to share their horticultural skills and love of plants with the community.

The nine Best Garden categories are: small front garden; large front garden; hanging basket or container; sheltered housing or retirement home; low-maintenance garden; fruit and vegetable garden; business premises; non-commercial premises; and place of worship.

There will also be a discretionary award for the most improved garden; for a garden that has been brought back to life or for a community effort in encouraging best horticultural practice.

IEI chairman John Glover said: "Gardening is rewarding on so many different levels as it is a relaxing hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all age groups.

"It is excellent for our health and wellbeing. It also helps the environment by providing habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

"The aim of the Inverurie Best Garden Competition is to draw attention to the contribution that Inverurie gardeners make to the visual quality of the town and to encourage others to do the same."

Entry forms are available from GPH Builders Merchants, Inverurie Garden Centre and Inverurie Library. There is no entry fee.

Completed entry forms should be posted to Inverurie Environmental Improvement c/o John Glover, 99 Middlemuir Road, Inverurie, AB51 4JB, by Friday, July 22.

GPH Builders Merchants is the main sponsor of the Inverurie Best Garden Competition.
