Seven Garioch groups have been awarded a share of cash from Aberdeenshire Council’s Energy Efficiency Fund.

After applications to the fund were made, council officers visited each facility to assess its current energy use.

They then gave each site a report with recommendations for works that could be carried out to improve energy efficiency.

The applications were considered by members of the Garioch area committee on Tuesday, September 27.

Councillors agreed to allocate additional cash from the local authority’s strategic budget to ensure some groups received the maximum award possible.

Westhill’s Ashdale Hall will get £4940 to put towards insulation improvements.

Milne Hall at Kirkton of Skene will receive £4116 to replace five existing windows with new energy efficient PVCU windows.

The AXIS Centre in Newmachar, Chapel of Garioch Village Hall, Hatton of Fintray Hall, Midmar Hall and Westdyke Leisure Centre in Elrick will all get the maximum award of £5000.

Money given to the AXIS Centre will be used to buy LED lighting for the main hall and changing rooms.

Underfloor insulation will be installed at Chapel Village Hall.

The grant awarded to Hatton of Fintray Hall will allow new LED lighting to be installed in the toilets, hall, entrance, kitchen, meeting room and store.

LED lighting is also expected to be put in place at Midmar Hall.

Finally Westdyke Leisure Centre will use the cash to replace its existing inefficient hot water calorifier which is now inefficient.

Meanwhile councillors also agreed to award £943 to Ury Riverside Park from the Tree Fund.

The money will allow the group to buy new tree tubes and square stakes.
