Ellon is shining bright once again after a successful lights switch on event on Sunday.

The community turned up in droves to support the event, which has not taken place since 2019.

There were fears that the event may have been cancelled once again this year after the disbanding of Ellon Community Council, however local Rotary Club members stepped in to support the remaining organisers to ensure the day could go ahead for the enjoyment of the whole community.

Visitors to the event could peruse various stalls and enjoy entertainment by various local groups, including dancers, musicians and martial artists, before lining the streets as darkness fell for the parade of community groups led by Santa and his elves.

The lights were switched on this year by local primary pupils Kiara and Holly, and the day finished with a fantastic fireworks display.

Taking to social media after the event, organisers said: "So that was the first year back after Covid and what a day it was.

"A big thank you to the Christmas lights team, Dennis and the firemen, and all the helpers, performers and groups that got involved - there are too many to mention.

"Thanks also to NJE Fireworks Displays for a fantastic end to the event.

"The biggest thanks goes the The Ellon Rotary Club who came in and saved the event.

"They joined our team and carried us forward in the last hour to get the licences in place and complete the final planning.

"Thank you to all involved for making this a fantastic community event."
