The School was cited as an example of excellent national practice over the 12 years they have been an eco friendly school.

In a statement, Eco Schools Scotland said: “Our congratulations go to Ellon Academy on successfully renewing your Green Flag Award.

"The work carried out during these past years has been outstanding and it has been a real pleasure to assess your application.

'Your chosen topics of Litter, Energy and Health and Wellbeing were all covered extremely well, showing very clearly your commitment to each of these topics.

“You have also demonstrated a fantastic approach to developing links and partnerships with your local community, enriching your journey even more.

“ The whole school feels extremely committed to this journey, and the Eco-Committee has done an exceptional

job doing a brilliant job at inspiring, engaging, informing and delivering actions.

"A big well done to everyone!”

Eco Schools Scotland hope to use examples of Ellon Academys work in the future.

As they noted: “We also noticed aspects of your work as being examples of good practice.

“We may use these on our website and social media as case studies to support other schools with their Eco- Schools Scotland work.

“What a solid journey you have all had at Ellon Academy.

"Without a doubt, this journey truly reflects how embedded the ethos of the Eco-Schools programme is in the identity and culture of your school, which is wonderful to see.

“ The journey you have just finished has had fantastic elements and aspects, and in such a large number that is hard to pick just few to mention.

“ I have really admired your capacity to reach out and to create networks that can help you achieve

your targets.”

Deputy Head Tecaher Kim Hall said: “Ellon Academy want to thank all staff and pupils and parents and partner links involved in working with the environment team to achieve this award.”
