A QUEUE for Burger King in Elgin had to be dispersed by police today after causing a traffic jam.

The scheduled re-opening of the drive-through at the town's Burger King caused huge queues on Ashgrove Road.

Burger King was due to open at noon but remained shut past the scheduled re-opening time, due to a technical problem.

A spokesperson told the Northern Scot: "The restaurant was delayed opening due to a software issue with one of the card machines, which led to a queue of cars forming for the drive-through to open.

"Burger King staff worked to disperse the queue while the card machine was fixed.

"Though police were not called to disperse the queue, they passed by to check everything was in hand."

A police spokesperson said: "Police attended after large amounts of traffic (gathered). The store closed and traffic dispersed."

The drive-through is now open with no queues. The store, which was shut for weeks due to the coronavirus lockdown, is offering a limited menu and is not accepting cash payments.
