THUNDERSTORMS hit a number of Moray towns yesterday, with torrential rain in places overnight.

Across Scotland, there was severe flooding, with pictures of cars floating away in Fife and streets flooded in Edinburgh.

Moray avoided the worst of the country's extreme weather, with the lightning in the sky painting a pretty picture for local weather watchers.

Jan Evans, from Mosstodloch, caught this picture of the lightning above the village this morning at 5am.
