The Freedom Alliance party has announced Jason Duncan as it is candidate for the MSP seat in Banffshire and Buchan Coast.

Outlining his campaign he said: "I am not a career politician. I come from a humble background, completed an apprenticeship before progressing into teaching, and then developed a successful business giving the young and underprivileged the skills and training necessary to give themselves a brighter future.

"Young people are our future, and they have made huge sacrifices due to the Government’s pandemic response. They will continue to do so if the harms of school closures continue to be denied by our politicians.

"This is not just political rhetoric. Four leading epidemiologists, paediatricians, and public health experts recently published an article in the British Medical Journal arguing that keeping schools open should be our top priority.

"They cited insufficient evidence that school closures minimised Covid-19 transmission, insufficient consideration of the harms to children, and adverse effects on their mental and physical health, future prospects and income, and life expectancy.

"The recent reopening of schools did not lead to the Covid-19 resurgence many doomsayers predicted. I would fight tooth-and-nail to ensure the rights of children and young people to access a free and full education are not denied.

"In order for young people to have a fulfilling future they need careers. Small-to-medium sized businesses, and the entrepreneurs that build them, drive our economy and create opportunity.

"But many are feeling demoralised, and businesses built up through many years of effort are closing for good due to the Government’s actions.

"They must have the freedom to trade and the conditions in which to prosper. One obstacle to this is the lack of reliable broadband, especially in rural areas, and I would campaign for better broadband for all.

"Finally, bodily autonomy and the freedom of medical choice are sacrosanct. Everyone should be free to make an informed decision, without fear of coercion, threat, or discrimination, about their medical treatment."
