The Cabin Nursery in Dufftown have joined the 'Litter League' which encourages young people to clean up and care for their local communities.

That has seen kids from the nursery, armed with litter pickers and Clean Up Scotland tabards, head out to their local play park where they cleared litter from the football pitch and the surrounding play area.

Donna Durno, The Cabin Nursery Manager, said: "The children picked the area themselves as they said they'd seen lots of litter there.

"But our intrepid pickers weren't deterred by the rain and were so enthusiastic.

"When we asked the kids why they were doing the litter pick they were very clear: to make it nicer and to make it safe for animals.

"So, after collecting three bin bags full of rubbish, a few random objects and a basketball we could really see the difference and enjoyed a run and a kick about with our new basketball."

The Spring Clean Scotland Campaign launched last Friday (March 17) and will last for four weeks. The community campaign encourages volunteer groups and local authorities to roll up their sleeves and organise litter picking activities in their local communities.

The Cabin decided to take part to teach the kids about the importance of keeping their outdoor areas clean and to inspire others to get involved.

Donna added: "Its so important for children and the wider community to be able to play and use outdoor areas that are free from litter and are relaxing places to be.

"We hope this team of young pickers will inspire others to get involved or to pick up after themselves to keep our communities and play areas a safe and relaxing places to be."
