AT the final meeting of the Huntly Probus Club before a summer break, members were given a talk by Dr Colin Shepherd.

Dr Shepherd talked about excavations at Druminor Castle near Rhynie.

Every year, in the summer, parts of the grounds around the castle are excavated to find where an old tower used to stand, as well as foundations of a castle that was demolished back in the 1960s.

Also found in the grounds were the remains of an old kiln which would have been used for grain from surrounding farms.

They also uncovered old walls which would have been around a garden. Druminor Castle was the headquarters of the Lords of Forbes, it has remained in the Forbes family since.

This was Huntly Probus Club's last meeting until September. However, on Thursday, May 11, the club is going to Aberdeen Art gallery for a look about and lunch.

The bus leaves the Square in Huntly at 10am and the club will leave the art gallery at 3.45pm.
