The Bank cafe and restaurant in Huntly town square provided the backdrop for a special celebration for local couple Naomi (Noni) and Douglas Pirie.
Celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday 19th, they were joined by family members including daughter Donna and son Douglas and four of their grandchildren on Tuesday lunchtime, ahead of travelling off on a short holiday on their actual anniversary date.
Originally from the Fordyce area, Douglas who celebrated his 85th birthday in July met 80 year old Noni from Huntly at a dance held in the Glass Hall.
Their romance blossomed and the couple were married at Huntly Parish Church on October 19, 1963.
With the exception of a year spent down in Slough, the couple have lived and worked in the Huntly area ever since, with Noni spending many years at Watt Bros in Huntly and Douglas initially working as a coalman and ending his career with Aberdeenshire Council as a chargehand.
Very much active and enjoying their respective retirement, they continue to play bowls on a regular basis and enjoy travelling and looking after their garden at home.
They were joined on Tuesday by guests Deputy lord lieutenant of Aberdeenshire Major Grenville Irvine-Fortescue and councillor Jeff Goodhall who made gift presentations to them both.
On the secret of 60 years together Noni said: "We've been very lucky and we're both still fit and active which is a blessing.
"The secret has always been patience and understanding with each other."
