Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East has made three new appointments to its board, extending the breadth and depth of its expertise across key sectors and disciplines.
Mavis Anagboso, Iain Abernethy and Jenny MacDonald have joined the DYW North East board at a pivotal time as the organisation seeks to increase the volume and quality of activities between the region’s employers and its next generation of workers.
Mavis Anagboso has 20 years of experience working with senior executives across the UK government and the energy sector.
She is currently global head of diversity, equity and inclusion at Harbour Energy and is co-founder of The Africulture Network, an organisation that aims to promote African culture and heritage, and celebrate the socio-historical connection between Africa and Scotland.
Iain Abernethy is people and culture manager at AAB, a tech-enabled, business critical services group.
He has worked within professional services for 23 years, with a strong emphasis on learning and development, including the creation of early careers programmes.
Jenny MacDonald has a particular focus on the opportunities that will be created by the energy transition and the skills that will be required to fulfil these opportunities.
As social investment advisor: skills with Shell UK she is passionate about helping people into these roles.
The new trio join an 11-strong DYW North East board. It is chaired by James Bream, CEO of Katoni Engineering. As part of the recruitment Mavis Anagboso takes on the role of vice-chairwoman.

"Each of them brings significant knowledge and expertise that will be of immense value to DYW North East as it strategically grows activities in the region between employers and young people.

Developing the Young Workforce is a Scottish Government initiative that aims to make it easier for employers and educators to connect and equip young people for the world.
DYW North East is one of 20 regional DYW groups with responsibility for fostering these connections across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Margo Milne, director of DYW North East said: “It is vital that young people in the region are aware of the opportunities that exist here – and that they feel empowered with knowledge, inspiration and experience to pursue these opportunities before entering the workforce.
“We are determined to ensure that career-related activities and opportunities are extended to all young people and Mavis is extremely well positioned to support our work in this area.
"The energy industry is hugely significant in terms of future roles and skills in the region; both Mavis and Jenny are at the forefront of this, which will help to inform and shape our work.
“Iain’s background in professional services, coupled with his experience of developing apprenticeship and graduate programmes, is another huge asset and will strengthen our efforts to encourage other local employers to offer entry-level positions.
“I am thrilled that each of our new board members has chosen to join DYW North East and I’m excited by the prospect of working with them to pursue our collective goal of informing and inspiring our region’s next generation of workers.”
