Dead motorist named as Buckie man

A CAR accident near Fochabers has claimed the life of a Buckie driver.

Christopher Newlands (34) died after the silver Ford Fiesta he was in was involved in a single vehicle collision last Friday at 4pm on the A98 Fochabers to Buckie road near Swiss Cottage.

Sgt Andy Ramsay of the road policing unit said: "Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the family and friends of the driver and an investigation into the collision is under way in order to piece together exactly what happened.

"I would urge anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the collision or who witnessed the accident itself and who hasn’t yet come forward to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2789 9/8/19 as soon as possible."

The affected section of the A98 was closed for a time while rescue and crash investigation teams worked, with eastbound traffic being diverted down the Spey Bay road.
