Moray youngsters have had to make do with packed lunches since they returned to school in mid-August.

However, it was confirmed at a meeting of Moray Council today that a date is in mind to return to normal.

The council's deputy chief executive Rhona Gunn said: "There are some challenges regarding the preparation of hot schools meals.

"There's the question of the numbers of staff and social distancing in the school kitchens.

"Added to that there's the ability to use dining spaces for the consumption of hot school meals.

"What I can say is that the matter is under active consideration

"A paper is coming before the recovery and renewal management team next week with some proposals.

"There is a date for us under contemplation, it's just a question of consideration of the issues around that."

The council's chief executive Roddy Burns echoed these sentiments.

He added: "There is a date in mind to get back to a full service just as soon as that is practicable given the circumstances."
