The sun shone on Saturday to welcome visitors to the 22nd annual Flower and Vegetable Show which took place in Alford.

Due to Covid restrictions, it had not been possible to hold the show for the last two years, so people were all the more pleased to come and see the display of our finest flowers, fruit and vegetables.

This year, the show was held at a new venue, Alford Men’s Shed, and organiser Verity Walters said the facilities there were "first class."

In the newly-opened café, visitors could enjoy delicious home baking produced by members of the committee, and admire the newly-planted garden.

There was much to enjoy, too, in the display of garden produce in the show.

The dry summer had caused some difficult growing conditions, but once again the benches were filled with a wonderful assortment of beautiful flowers and tasty- looking vegetables.

Verity said: "A new class for holders of allotments produced some excellent entries, and we were delighted to see a big increase in the number of entries in the children’s classes as well.

"It’s surely a sign of hope for the future of gardening."
