Council tax payments in Moray will be frozen for the forthcoming year, it has just been decided.

As expected, Moray Council agreed not to increase the charge during a meeting which is still ongoing as of 11.25am today.

The meeting began with Shona Morrsion, the council's convenor, stating that today marks a full year since the first Covid-19 case was identified in Scotland.

A minute's silence then followed to remember all those who have lost their lives since.

Graham Leadbitter, the council's leader, spoke of both the emotional and financial impact of the pandemic to Moray.

He said: "That impact has been enormous and it will continue to be enormous for some time.

"I'd like to pay tribute to all the staff in the council, especially those who work in face-to-face roles."

That sentiment was echoed by other councillors.
