Funding applications to the Formartine area committee budget were all unanimously approved by members of the committee on Tuesday.

Slains and Collieston Community Council will get £2544 to help buy a new wheelchair accessible train and carriage for the play park in Collieston.

The new train will replace the old wooden one that was previously in the park and will be accessible to all users.

Councillor Louise McAllister said she “wholeheartedly” supported the application.

She added: “It’s a great facility and I know it is well used by visitors and local children so to have a replacement there would definitely be a boost for the community.”

Methlick Community Council will receive £3000 to put towards its riverside project.

The cash will go towards the construction of new footpaths and seating areas in the village.

Money will also be used to buy trees, shrubs and bulbs.

Councillor Alastair Forsyth backed the group’s application and said it was a “very worthwhile project”.

A spokesperson for Methlick Community council said: "Work has began on the Riverside project, this will see the current unusable area turn into a place to be enjoyed by the community and wild life.

"1st Methlick Scout Group are also assisting the community council with planting of tress when the time come."

Meanwhile Tarves Development Trust was awarded £5000.

The group will use the funding to create a path from the village to the Haddo Estate.

Endorsing the application councillor Andrew Hassan said: “All of us in Formartine would like to see more safe walking routes in the area.

“This will add to that and it will help many more people access the Haddo Estate.”
