Aberdeenshire Council is asking families to and loved ones to check at their local cemetery if graveside items have been affected by the recent high winds and flood conditions.

A spokesperson explained: "Unfortunately, as can be seen from this image, many Aberdeenshire cemeteries which we maintain have suffered from the effects of recent high winds and storms.

Items which have ended up scattered around sites will be collected at the gates for the public to claim before removal.

"Sadly some of the items have been broken, while other lighter pieces may have been blown outwith the cemetery boundaries.

"Our teams are in the process of collecting the scattered lair ornamentation still remaining within the cemeteries and will be placing them near the main entrance for families to collect.

"Any items unclaimed by the time we uplift Christmas wreaths and festive floral tributes from our burial grounds on February 1 will be removed and stored for a period of six months.

"If you have laid a wreath or floral tribute for a loved one over the festive period and would like to retain them, please remember to remove them by February 1.

"The council cannot accept responsibility for any festive tributes left on graves particularly those left after this date - thank you for your understanding and assistance."
