Plans have been lodged to build a Costa Coffee drive-through café in Inverurie.

A proposal has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council for the development at Harlaw Road.

The site is next to the Aldi supermarket and would include an associated access route and car parking.

In the design statement provided by the agent GD Lodge Architects it outlines: "The application site lies within the grounds of an existing Aldi supermarket, which faces Harlaw Road in Inverurie and comprises an area of vacant ground to the north-east corner of the Aldi car park.

"The site was formerly within the ownership of Aldi and has now been disposed to the applicant."

A location plan of where the Costa Coffee drive through is proposed to be sited.

The proposed development comprises a single storey 1800sqft drive-through unit.

The design statement added: "The site is accessed from an existing junction from Loco Works Road, shared with the Aldi superstore.

"It is bounded by the Aldi car park to the south and west, by Crossover Road to the east and by the former Breedon industrial site to the north.

"To the east of Crossover Road is the Garioch Heritage Centre, and to the west is Harlaw Bowling Club, which sits approximately four metres above the site level behind a mature tree belt.

"The Costa building is designed according to a standard model for an 1800sqft Scottish drive-through unit, with space around the building for external seating arrangements and the drive-through lane.

"The materials proposed conform to Costa’s standard model, the elevations comprising a combination of coloured render, cedar battened cladding, aluminium cladding and aluminium powder coated window frames.

"The mono pitched roof will comprise profiled metal cladding with a powder coated aluminium facia.

"Separate applications for permission to display advertisement will be made according to the final operator specifications.

"Car parking provision is based upon the Aberdeen Local Development Plan Supplementary Guidance for Transport and Accessibility, with 18 spaces available to the unit including two accessible spaces. These spaces are part of the existing Aldi parking area and are shared with the Aldi unit.

"Appropriate cycle stands are located adjacent to the building on the circulation apron. Vehicle servicing access is provided immediately to the west of the site and the turning is shared with the Aldi unit.

"A recycling and services area is annexed to the west elevation of the building, screened behind timber fencing."

The plans can be viewed on the Aberdeenshire Council planning website and comments on the proposal can be made until Thursday, July 28.
