Coronavirus update: Unprecedented daily case numbers in Scotland

In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 6835 positive cases of coronavirus which equates to 14.2 per cent of those tested overall.

This compares to 4925 in the previous 24 hours.

Amongst these newly reported cases NHS Greater Glasgow recorded 1988 cases and NHS Lanarkshire 1269 cases.

NHS Grampian saw 341 cases while NHS Highland recorded 345 cases.

In the seven days to August 24 there were 657 new cases in Aberdeenshire (251.9 per 100,000) an increase of 70 on yesterday's total, 619 in Aberdeen City (270.2 per 100,000) and in Moray 136 (142.1 per 100,000).

Four new deaths have been recorded in Scotland with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Cases are now endemic across the whole of the north-east and continue to rise.

To date in Scotland more than 4,095,463 people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and over 3,629,482 people have received their second dose.
