In the last 24 hours there were 1128 positive cases which equates to 7.1per cent of total tests

There were 416 in NHS Greater Glasgow, 266 in Lanarkshire, 121 in Ayrshire and 117 in Lothian with the rest spread around the country.

Speaking at First Ministers questions today, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Last week we saw signs of slowing in case rates, two weeks ago this was 40 per cent this week it is down to around 4 per cent.

"Measures to curb households meeting and hospitality may be having an impact, but we must be under no illusions that Europe is under a second wave.

"The Virus will still take every opportunity to spread,

"Our framework is proportionate and is broadly based on positive cases per 100,000 of population, potential capacity of care facilities and with consideration of local outbreaks. - the final decision will be based on all of these factors."

From 6am on Monday the following levels will be enforced and will be reviewed weekly, with the next on November 10 to take effect on November 13.

Level 1 - Highland, Moray, Western Isles, Shetland and Orkney. - - household restrictions still apply but as this can cause issues in rural areas this will be reviewed in due course.

Level 2 - Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Fife Dumfries, Argyl and Bute, Perth and Kinross and Angus.

Level 3 - Inverclyde, East and West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, City of Glasgow, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire, City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian and East Lothian, Dundee City.

The First Minister said: "There is evidence of the situation stabilising in Lanarkshire but rates are still high - for these reasons, North and South Lanarkshire will be in Level 3 but it is very borderline and will be reviewed on a daily basis."

She stressed: "Travel restrictions if not applied to will lead to a national lockdown, do not travel from Level 3 and vice versa unless essential for work of health care.

"From Monday it will apply from local authority level rather than health board.

"I appeal to people to comply to let us have a proportionate response.

"I thank everyone for their sacrifices but they are essential, if we succeed we should be able to lead less restricted lives,

"Cases are still rising and the situation is fragile and I cannot rule out national lockdown if cases rise and NHS capacity reaches limits.

"We must all play our part."
