Coronavirus update: National case numbers rise by over 25 per cent in a day





In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 2622 positive cases which equates to 10.1 per cent of those tested overall and a 28.2 per cent increase on the previous days total.

For that time period, NHS Greater Glasgow saw 680 cases, large case rises were seen in both Lothian 379 and Lanarkshire 372 as well as Grampian 260 (from 184) and Tayside 236 (from) 130 while Highland recorded 81 cases.

Some 68 deaths were registered within the last 24 hours of patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 28 days.

In the last seven days NHS Grampian has seen 852 positive cases, the fourth largest in Scotland behind, Glasgow, Lothian and Lanarkshire.

For the seven days to December 28, Aberdeenshire rose again to 394 cases (150.8 per 100,000) while Aberdeen City saw a very slight fall to 386 (168.8 per 100,000).

Following on from the previous days trends, case numbers in areas have continued to show an upward trend across most of the north-east.

In terms of absolute case numbers for the seven day period, Newmachar remains the highest with 41 followed by the adjacent Ythsie area with 21.

Aboyne recorded 19 cases and adjacent Cromar 18, while cases were in double figures in Durno, Inverurie South, Stonehaven North, Blackburn, Kintore and Balmedie.
