Coronavirus update: Daily total shows increasing backlog of case results as system struggles to cope

In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 7713 positive cases of coronavirus which equates to 14.2 per cent of those tested overal

This beats the previous high of 6835 two days ago and is according to Public Health Scotland is because: "Today's figure of newly reported cases includes a larger than usual proportion of specimens that were processed more than 48 hours ago.

"This is due to the high volumes of tests currently being received."

Amongst these newly reported cases NHS Greater Glasgow recorded 2211 cases and NHS Lanarkshire 1304 cases.

NHS Grampian saw 339 cases while NHS Highland recorded 303 cases.

In the seven days to August 26 there were 842 new cases in Aberdeenshire (322.9 per 100,000) 791 in Aberdeen City (345.3 per 100,000) and in Moray 170 (177.6 per 100,000).

No new deaths have been recorded in Scotland with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Cases are now endemic across the whole of the north-east and continue to rise with many areas now recording multiple cases per day.

To date in Scotland more than 4,101,311 people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and over 3,655,287 people have received their second dose.
