Whilst the charity’s Hearing Forces service is currently unable to carry out a face-to-face service, the team are working to ensure that older veterans get practical support and information relating to hearing loss.

The Hearing Forces team are offering a postal hearing aid battery service for NHS hearing aid users, giving information on equipment to assist in preventing loneliness and isolation and liaising with NHS Audiology on behalf of service users.

Commenting, Angela Paton, Hearing Forces project manager said: “We want to make sure older veterans in Aberdeenshire are not feeling isolated in what is a difficult time for everyone.

"Whilst it is not currently possible to run our face-to-face service we want to make sure that veterans with hearing loss can still access support from us.

“We have been helping veterans with advice and support, including accessing local NHS audiology services for hearing aid repairs and sending out replacement hearing aid batteries by post.

"We recently provided an emergency telephone to a terminally ill 92 year-old woman.

"The new telephone allows communication with family members, essential during the current Covid-19 crisis when her health condition has increased her vulnerability.”

“If any older veterans in Aberdeenshire needs batteries for their NHS hearing aid or require information on hearing loss or tinnitus, please do get in touch.”

Hearing Forces is part of the Unforgotten Forces consortium, a partnership between sixteen leading organisations which deliver a range of services to older veterans.
