MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid is urging Health Secretary Humza Yousaf to “wake up and face the reality” of spiralling waiting times in accident and emergency in Grampian.

The latest weekly accident and emergency statistics show only 81.3 per cent of NHS Grampian patients were seen within four hours for the week ending July 18.

It comes as only 78.7 per cent of patients across Scotland were seen within the four-hour time period. This was the worst performance since the first week of January 2018.

The Scottish Government target states that 95 per cent of patients should be seen within four hours of arriving at accident and emergency, a target that has now not been met since July 2020.

Mr Duguid said the current situation is unsustainable going forward and has called on the Scottish Health Secretary to urgently work with frontline staff in NHS Grampian to guarantee patients will be seen as quickly as possible.

He said: “Humza Yousaf needs to wake up and face the reality of what is happening on the frontline in NHS Grampian.

“Only last week, he said there isn’t a crisis in Scotland’s health service. Now we see the worst accident and emergency waiting time performance in over three years.

“Only 81.3 per cent were seen in Grampian, which is another week where the 95 per cent target hasn’t been met.

“This situation isn’t sustainable for our heroic frontline staff at NHS Grampian.

“It is time for Humza Yousaf to urgently work with the health board to guarantee patients will be seen within target times set by SNP Ministers.”
