Alvah And Forglen Community Council are supporting The Queen's Green Canopy initiative by establishing a wild wood at Mountblairy.

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a national initiative to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, and to promote the importance of trees to the environment.

The community council have been allocated 2.8 acres of land by the Mountblairy Estate, near Turriff, to establish a wild wood which will enhance the environment and the habitat of local wildlife.

Thanks to an initial quantity of trees supplied by the Woodlands Trust and a generous donation from Brydock Windfarm for additional trees, the group intends to plant almost 2000 trees by the end of spring.

Members are aware that many residents in the area and beyond would welcome the opportunity to plant a tree to commemorate the Jubilee and therefore will hold a tree planting weekend on March 5 and 6 between 10am and 4pm.

Members of the local community of all ages are invited to come along with a spade and plant a tree.
